Truman Wheelock, vice-president of Wheelock-Stein Investment Company, built this 1909 Kansas City Craftsman house. Wheelock, who built many homes in the South Hyde Park area, focused on building modern homes with easy payments to make them affordable for homeowners. The full-width front porch's solid stone pillars, stone railing and tapered square column are classic Craftsman details. The paneled front door, three and four vertical light Windows, and half-timbers on stucco complete the style. In 2012, the house was vacant and slated to be torn down by City of Kansas City, citing it as a dangerous building. The house changed ownership in 2013 and was renovated from top to bottom. The newly renovated home was purchased by Stef and Dan Mize in 2014. It had the perfect mix of historic and modern touches that suited both of their styles. The house's open first floor plan and custom, gourmet kitchen are great for entertaining. The rooms on the second and third floors offer a fourth bedroom option with three and a half baths making it the perfect size for company. The hardwood floors are original throughout the house including burn marks from an iron on the third floor. A new porch swing provides the optimum location for relaxation and for viewing the park.
